Assisted in the design of, and conducted all
leadership skills training for, a ten day leadership institute for directors of nutrition
programs for Native American elders (1989-1991).
- American Bar Association
(Chicago, IL)Coordinator, Haitian Refugee Pro Bono Project. Recruited
and assisted coordinators in 50 cities in 19 states, who in turn recruited volunteer
attorneys to represent more than 1900 Haitian refugees claiming political asylum in the
United States (1982 to 1984).
Coordinator of three regional and two national
conferences on development and management of programs to provide roles for private
attorneys in the delivery of legal assistance to low income persons (1982 to 1984).

- Provided assistance to managers of legal
services programs on such topics as program planning, setting case priorities,
retrenchment, and creating roles for private attorneys in the delivery of legal services
(1980 to 1984).
- Coordinator of the first conferences on use of
private attorneys in legal services programs (1980 to 1981).
- Director of "Project Take Off", which
provided training, expert on-site assistance, and materials to legal services programs
which were expanding as a result of increased federal support (1980 to 1982).
- Designed and conducted the "Next Steps for
the Legal Services Corporation", a planning procedure for the Corporation itself,
which consisted of five meetings of legal services clients, staff, board meetings and
interested citizens in various locations throughout the United States, as well as a final
national meeting in Washington. The result was a long term plan for the Corporation, whose
budget at the time the plan was prepared was $275 million per year (1978 to 1979).
- Developed and conducted training for managers of
legal services programs and for staff of the Corporation (1977 to 1981).
- Conducted a study of the effect of the use of
formal planning procedures in legal services programs (1978 to 1980).
- Provided assistance to managers of legal services
programs on mergers with other programs, program planning, board of director training and
increasing the role of private attorneys in the delivery of legal services. (1978 to
1985).

- Developed planning procedures for legal services
programs, and assisted more than 30 programs to prepare long term plans.
- Trained managers of legal services programs.
- Assisted programs providing services to older
persons in New Mexico. Activities included assisting local programs; and training staffs
of local programs and the New Mexico Commission on Aging.
During this period was also co-owner and operator
of Pachamama, Inc., which imported and retailed handcrafts from Latin America.
